Is it just us, or are the warmer temps and sunshine getting you excited for the arrival of summer? It certainlygets our Minnesota-based NutriStudents K-12 team excited about summer feeding programs.
As the school year draws to a close and summer activities begin, it’s time to spread the word that when school’s out, free summer meals are in. As you know, countless children in the United States today don't get the healthy food they need. During a regular school year, we can reach many of these children with programs like free breakfast, lunch, and after school meals. But during the summer, when schools are closed, those meals disappear.
If you’re planning to participate in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) or Seamless Summer Option (SSO), we have a few NEW printable resources to help you get the word out to parents and families about your program and 2 weeks of SSO menus to take the guesswork out of what to serve.
Free Summer Meals for Kids flyer to spread the word about summer foodservice with customizable text to enter your program information. Simply enter your information in the text fields. Print and post around your community. Pro tip, you can also save the PDF as an image (File > Export To> Image > JPEG) and post the graphic to your social media pages.
School’s Out & Free Summer Meals Are In! Cafeteria Connection helps communicate the details of your program to parents and caregivers. Cafeteria Connection is our monthly printable newsletter to help you communicate to parents (and staff!) important information about your foodservice program and to better appreciate your commitment to serving students nutritious and delicious meals every day. New issues come out monthly and we invite you to sign up for a free subscription so you don’t miss an issue!
If you’re looking for recipe and menu inspiration for what to serve, we also have two weeks of free SSO menu weeks, complete with recipes and reports, for downloading.
As you look to summer and beyond, we invite you to schedule a demo to preview our 45 weeks of student-approved, USDA-compliant menus, productivity tools and extensive marketing resources for child nutrition programs in action.
