NutriStudents K-12 is happy to support our clients in preparations for your tri-annual USDA Administrative Review. We have helped over 50 clients successfully pass their audits with flying colors, and will be happy to offer you as much one-on-one support as you’d like, and is permitted, to successfully complete your audit. While nuances within the process may exist from one state to the next, expectations and required documentation are largely universal.

If you’re slated for an audit, visit the “Training and Resources” tab within the client portal for our “Administrative Review Support” content. We recently added a tutorial video providing an overview of the reports you’ll need to supply your reviewer, including daily food production reports for all the meals you serve and Child Nutrition (CN) labels from the packaging on your ingredient foods for the menu week chosen for review. Within our resources, you’ll also find an Administrative Review Packet, which includes a complete checklist to help you prepare for your audit.

Updated CN Label Requirements

Some districts/schools have requested NutriStudents K-12 to provide digital copies of CN labels for any of the NutriStudents K-12 menu weeks that may be chosen for review. Unfortunately, USDA requires state reviewers to only accept actual CN labels, or photographs of the actual CN label, from the physical case of product purchased and used to prepare those meals; or watermarked CN labels provided by your distributor and a corresponding distributor invoice. USDA will no longer accept watermarked online forms as proof for administrative reviews. If we were to provide CN labels to clients, we would be in clear violation of USDA requirements and put both your district/school and NutriStudents K-12 at risk of reprimand.

You can read more about this in the USDA policy memo.
