The School Nutrition Association has released its 2022 Position Paper outlining the organization’s legislative priorities for the year. In the paper, SNA calls on Congress to immediately extend pandemic-related child nutrition waivers through School Year 2022/23 and take steps to permanently support school meal programs severely impacted by supply chain, financial, and regulatory challenges.

The position paper is the foundation that school nutrition professionals from across the country will use to urge their Members of Congress to make permanent changes to child nutrition programs as part of the Legislative Action Conference in March. These changes include:

  • Increase National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program (NSLP/SBP) reimbursements.
  • Expand NSLP/SBP to offer healthy school meals for all students at no charge to support academic achievement.
  • Ease sodium, whole grain, and milk requirements.
  • Reduce regulatory and administrative burdens.
